S.T. Dupont Elyseé pen a fine choice

For a month or two I had been planning to get a really nice ballpoint pen. A small personal investment. Maybe something I would pass on to my son or daughter. something to increase the pleasantness and pleasure of writing.

After getting into the subject of luxury pens, which you can see from my previous blogs (Luxury pens: where to buy my Mont Blanc, Davidoff Luxury pens), This is the list of pens that I gave deeper consideration:
The Mont Blanc Meisterstück classique ballpoint pen gold finish
The Mont Blanc Starwalker pen platinum finish
The Montegrappa Espressione pen with mother-of-pearl resin and solid silver barrel top
The S.T. Dupont Elysée ball point pen black lacquer
The S.T. Dupont Liberté ball point pen black lacquer

After unhurried consideration of the brand history, the craftsmanship techniques, the writing ease, the feel of the pen design geometry and size, and the feel of the material, I finally decided on the S.T. Dupont Elysée ball point pen black lacquer.

I decided to get something other than Mont Blanc, something with a similar rich history in pens, had a luxurious feel with matching technology and craftsmanship, and I found these in the S.T. Dupont.

The size of the S.T. Dupont Elysée is visually large, yet the feel in the hand is very smooth and the size just right. The length and overall size are greater than the Mont Blanc Starwalker, while the portion where the fingers grip the pen are smaller than on the Starwalker ball point pen.

The feel of the lacquer material is also sensibly different. If you can believe it, the lacquer material is slightly but noticeably warmer to the touch, and has a fuller, richer feel. This could be due in part to the heavier and more solid feel of a lacquer type construction that has a metal base covered by multiple natural lacquer layers. This contrasts to a precious resin barrel, which has a slightly colder feel, has no metal base, and which could actually shatter given a bad fall (so take care of precious resin pens!).

Read about the adventures of a lacquerer, 1935 in the history section of the S.T. Dupont website.

Read also about the creation of lacquers from natural tree sap.
An excerpt from the site: "Authentic Chinese lacquer comes from the sap of trees from South Asia. The species Rhus Vernicifera, Rhus Succedana and Melanorrhea Laccifera can grow up to 10 meters high with a diameter of 40 cm. In its natural state Chinese lacquer is a yellowish resin which becomes brown when exposed to air."

I bought my pen from Aesthetic Bay at Ion Orchard, Singapore.

I have to say that I enjoy using both my Mont Blanc fineliner pen and my S.T. Dupont Elysée lacquer pen.

This is not out of pride and not for boasting. First Corinthians says:
For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? (1 Corinthians 4:7 NIV)

Instead, I thank God for the opportunity to enjoy these blessings.
And to journal my walk with Him.

to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, 'What do these stones mean?' tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever." (Joshua 4:6, 7 NIV)

The journals of your personal walk with God and how he has answered prayers can be your own memorial stones for your future generations.
