You see this in the number of leather pen cases that are upwards of USD 100 or about SGD 120, when you can easily buy a pen case for less than USD 25.

I've talked about this in a previous blog. You could purchase a Goldlion leather 2-pen case with zip for only SGD 49 in Singapore that is very decent and will represent yourself well. It's available at Takashimaya and Isetan Department Stores. Below that price level are very many brands, including and quite interesting for me to see - a Moleskine pen case. I find it nice that they've extended the brand to many new products, including iPad cases, bags, glasses and pens, but I still like their notebook lineup the best.
Above the Goldlion would be the luxury brands, and you could get a Mont Blanc, an S.T. Dupont, an Alfred Dunhill, a Zino Davidoff, etc. Now since I've recently bought 2 Mont Blanc pens, I decided to get the pen case as well.

This model for 2 pens and without a zip is SGD 168 at the Singapore Changi Airport Mont Blanc boutique. At the boutiques in Singapore, This comes to SGD 180. At the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Mont Blanc boutique, it comes to about SGD 175, with no discount.
I bought this case at Changi Terminal 2 Mont Blanc, in the morning when I had a day trip to KL. I found it nteresting that on my return, KLIA Mont Blanc had a brand new pen case model that I saw for the first time. It was for 2 pens, and used a mix of fabric and leather. The design is a tad more casual than the style pictured here, and it is also slightly more compact in size. The price came out about SGD 155.
Why do you need a pen case? Well, to protect your precious pens. Does it have to be so expensive? Not really, so just buy it if you appreciate it's worth and enjoy its utility. If you do want to buy a luxury pen case, there are a number of very good options, and the Mont Blanc is one that adds a definite touch of class.
