Hotel loyalty programs really work, and I've enjoyed quite a bit of what different hotels programs have to offer.
We just got to Langkawi yesterday. I booked our stay at the Sheraton Langkawi Resort Hotel online and did it in advance, and reserved a garden room with a King size bed adjoined to a room with 2 double beds. Since my kids became teens, we've consistently booked 2 hotel rooms a night when we travel. Quite a steep proposition when you book hotels in the range of SGD300+ per night. So I used points to book 1 room for our four nights, and paid using my credit card for the other.
I was very pleased and peasantry surprised when we checked in and
were advised we were upgraded to a room nearer the pool and the beach, and given a spacious suite with two queen size beds, a jacuzzi, a large living area with a big set and a coffee table and a separate dining table, adjoined to a room with a king size bed.
The suite room had access to a large veranda from the living room as well as from the bedroom. The large veranda even had two reclining seats that are typically used around pools.
We immediately felt at home, and we particularly enjoy the spacious and comfortable family living area. Thank God for this! It's a big blessing to be given this upgrade, and thanks also to the Starwood Preferred Guest program. I also have to say that it was easy to book on-line, and I was very pleased that SPG has a facility from its website that you can request a call, specify the phone you want called, and then you can speak with an SPG representative almost immediately.
The location of the Sheraton Langkawi Resort Hotel is quite convenient. We requested a car from one of the companies at the airport, and they delivered a new Honda City to the hotel.
This morning we drove to the Oriental Village which where you can ride the Langkawi Cable Car and go shopping for some local tourist items.
We're having a relaxing time out, and the hotel has just been a very apt venue for us.
There are more things to do in Langkawi. But we're not in a hurry. We're on vacation.
