Raffles Hotel Singapore Museum is closed. Sad news.

Just learned today that the Raffles Hotel Singapore Museum is closed.
It had just closed in January, and the unmistakeable sign in front of the museum was still there. A peek inside showed that a number of the museum articles were still pending shipment to their future destination. Hopefully another museum, and not some obscure warehouse storage somewhere.

The Raffles Hotel Singapore Museum is closed as of January 14, 2013. Sad news.

I've consistently liked the Raffles Hotel Museum because of the history of Singapore that it reveals, and its heritage and right to display that history. Also, it's smack at the heart of the city, beside modern shopping malls, while giving access to the more local Singapore scene and coffee shop fare just by walking some of the back streets and shophouses behind the Raffles Hotel.

Oh well, with this icon of Singapore history gone, you may go right ahead and view the art galleries and high-end shops of the Raffles Hotel arcade, then enjoy a beverage or a snack at the Empire Cafe. These are enjoyable treats for the tourist and local alike.
