Stitcher App (BMW approved) great for listening to what you want, when you want! Atheist claims to be God?
Stitcher App, available from iTunes, is great! I just learned about this app a month ago from a BMW Philippines mailer, as this is an approved BMW App. Eager to try out new stuff for my BMW, I immediately downloaded the app, and have quickly gotten into it. Of course you can use the app directly from your iPhone or iPod, and use it anywhere e.g. while walking, doing things around the house, commuting on a plane or a train, or while shaving at home (plus, plus). What's great when listening on the new BMW is that the podcast logo even appears on the BMW ConnectedDrive infotainment screen, so you know exactly what you're listening to and how much of the program remains. Little niceties that make the BMW really great to drive :)
I had never cared much for podcasts until I learned about Stitcher from the BMW mailer. But now I've discovered that there are lots of programs I can listen to. Stitcher says you can listen to your favorite news, comedy, sports and radio talk shows ON DEMAND. What I found is that I can listen to my new fave programs of Ravi Zacharias (main plenary speaker in the recent Global Discipleship Conference 2013 in Manila) and William Lane Craig, plus old favorites of John MacArthur, etc. There are also interesting music podcasts, plus a haystack of other podcasts you'll need to sift through. Stitcher makes it easy to organize your stations and update them. The ON DEMAND offline listening feature is really useful when you are traveling and don't have continuous wifi or LTE/ 3G access.
Stitcher adds to your listening pleasure - more entertainment options, another set of channels you can listen to while mobile. And it has the added ability to let you "redeem the time", and be more productive i.e. listen to something thought-provoking, educational, beneficial while simultaneously working on something else with your hands, or en route to a destination.
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15, 16 NKJV)
Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15, 16 NASB)
From recent podcasts, mostly of Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias, here are great insights I've gained:
- To say with certainty that something doesn't exist, you need to have complete knowledge of everything, everywhere, at all times, and then be able to pronounce that that "thing" doesn't exist. Therefore for an atheist to say there is no God, he has to have been able to search everywhere in the universe, throughout all times, simultaneously even, and understand everything, in order to say with certainty there is no God. But then the atheist is unwittingly claiming for himself attributes assigned only to God in order to claim to speak authoritatively that there is no God! This is a self-refuting statement! And for someone to believe an atheist who claims there is no God, he is assigning belief that that atheist is omniscient and omnipresent (I.e. like God himself) such that he is able to make those statements!
The futility of mistakenly claiming something doesn't exist brings to remembrance the coelacanth fish and the Wollemi pine tree.
Photo of the coelacanth from Wikipedia.
The coelacanth was believed by scientists to have been extinct for 70 million years. But since its "rediscovery" in 1938, it is considered a "Living fossil". The coelacanth is touted as being a fish in early transition to becoming an amphibian, thus it's disappearance from the fossil record, only to be found today, still a fish, and nowhere near using its fins as legs as was previously imagined. This example simply stresses the point that though evolutionary scientists had declared authoritatively in textbooks that the coelacanth was extinct, they didn't have the full knowledge of everything, everywhere, to make a valid statement.
Another interesting insight:
- One cannot prove scientifically (using the scientific approach of testing, validating) that God doesn't exist. Therefore to take the position of an atheist, to believe that God doesn't exist, is to take a stand of faith. Many atheists mistakenly think they are taking the intellectual position, the lofty and superior position of science and knowledge, as compared to Christians who believe in God on the basis of faith. Yet, most atheists miss out and are blindsided to the reality that they themselves are taking a position based on faith! Atheism is a religion, a position of faith, and needs to be recognized as such!
This point is made succinctly over and over in the Answers in Genesis website through many interesting research articles and scientific studies which demonstrate that belief in God is the more logical and intellectual choice. And here's a recent article on how Answers in Genesis (AiG) participated in this year's U.S. annual National Eduction Association (NEA) conference and the theme for the AiG booth was “Evolution is Blind Faith Disguised as Science.”
These are just some quick insights. Now with Stitcher, long drives and long flights afford us an additional "companion" we can listen to, and a great tool for "equipping the saints" [for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; (Ephesians 4:12 NASB)], and just for added listening pleasure.
Safe and happy journeys!
