Two Giant Sea Serpents Wash Up on Californian Beach

I recently saw curious news photos of giant snake-like fish being held by a large group of smiling people. I decided to look it up, and here's an interesting article I found from www.dailymail.co.uk - Are the bodies of two giant sea serpents that washed up on Californian beach last week a sign of a looming major natural disaster?

What's doubly unusual is that two of these rare fish washed ashore within a week of each other - an 18-foot "sea monster" last October 13 that needed 16 people to drag it onto the beach, and a 14-foot sibling creature last October 18.

The strange-looking head of the 18-foot-long Oarfish, with it's unusual mouth and large eyes.

It's fascinating to get a glimpse of these not-often-seen sea creatures, more conventionally known as Oarfish. As sightings are rare, this fish has largely remained unstudied. These two incidents however, tantalizingly raise our curiosity of what other mysteries the deep holds for us.

The DailyMail article talks about how oarfish were sighted in Japan before a massive 8.9 earthquake hit. It also states how in 373 B.C., historians recorded that animals, including rats, snakes and weasels, deserted the Greek city of Helice in droves just days before a quake devastated the place. It also cites National Geographic News that recognizes accounts of similar animal anticipation of earthquakes throughout the centuries, such as catfish moving violently, chickens that stop laying eggs, bees leaving their hive in a panic and domesticated cats and dogs showing unusual restless behavior.

What the animals sense to give them foreboding of an impending disaster, is a mystery. Though there have been scientific investigations in this area, the indicators that animals detect before an earthquake are unknown.

I found the story very fascinating as it gives an image of the animals going into the ark of Noah. I just finished reading Genesis 7 - 9, so the story of Noah and the flood are so fresh to me.
(I recently completed reading the whole New Testament, and I'm now starting again in Genesis, reading the entire Bible for my 6th time, and I am continually amazed at the new things I learn, the precious treasures I discover in God's Word.)

In Genesis, God commanded Noah to "take" with him pairs of animals, but also in Genesis 7:8-9 it says "Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah." (NIV).
It's exciting to think that the animals, sensing an oncoming disaster, were restless and looking for a place of shelter, making Noah's task easier.

Also, have you realized that the global flood of Noah's day wasn't just brought about by intense rains for forty days and nights? The Bible states that the springs of the great deep burst forth! [In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. (Genesis 7:11 NIV)] This means there would have been massive upheavals, tectonic plate shifting, and potentially - multiple volcanic eruptions accompanied this cataclysmic event. So as animals can in some way sense earthquakes, they would have had a portend to this huge event!

Do you think Noah's story is a fable or a myth? Check this link to understand that there is no reason whatsoever to dismiss the story and not accept God's Word about the flood. What's more, there is already a great wealth of scientific, technical and investigative information that supports the flood story. One merely needs to read them and apply intelligent discernment for himself. For one thing, where did all the sedimentary rock that encases all the fossils and which cover much of the Earth's land, where did they come from anyway? Flood geology explains the scientific evidence in a more consistent and more reasonable way.

Whether the two oarfish are a warning of some natural disaster or just independent events, we won't know for now. What is certain though, is that they do bring to remembrance the story of Noah, which is a true warning about impending judgment - for us to ready at all times, just as Jesus said.

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (Matthew 24:36-44 NIV)

The oarfish is said to be the stuff of old sailors' stories of sea serpents, and this is believable. The Bible however, tells of more fearsome sea creatures, like Leviathan. Get more info from Answers In Genesis.
