The Best Nature Trail in Baguio - The BenCab Museum Part 2

When you're in Baguio, one of your Top Things To Do should be to visit the BenCab Museum. This will be a real treat to appreciate visual art and the intriguing Ifugao tribe's culture and history. I've shared this in a previous blog. And when at the BenCab Museum, you shouldn't miss the nature walk! That's why you'll need to allocate, my reco - about half a day to enjoy the art - paintings, sculptures, carvings, plus relax with great food, and then the nature walk. Let me tell you more of the walk.

A traditional Nipa Hut, the boardwalk and the duck pond, as seen from above at Cafe Sabel.

I'd recommend you first soak in the sights from the museum, then enjoy a favorite Filipino dish or merienda at Cafe Sabel.

I'd rate Cafe Sabel as one of the best places in Baguio for Al Fresco coffee. So be sure to enjoy a cup of the local brew. And take this time to have them arrange for your walk. There's a fee - don't be surprised, and don't hesitate. The fee is small and it's put to good use for the upkeep of the 6 hectare place. It'll also pay for your guide, a must-have, who will be very handy in taking your photos and telling you about the local flora. This nature walk is one of the best urban nature and mini-mountain treks you can take, and you can only do this while in Baguio.

First stop on the trek is this natural spring. You'll have a chance to walk up close to it.

Then you'll pass a number of flower- and vegetable- patches and greenhouses. Because of the high humidity and pleasant Baguio climate, you'll observe that much of the flora are in good health.

The guide had lots of interesting info and stories to make the walk more animated.

This authentic Ifugao Kalinga hut was deconstructed and transported to the trekking path. The guide said newlyweds would enter this hut and not leave until the young bride had become pregnant. How would they know, I asked. "They just knew" was the answer.

This photo is from the resting spot halfway up the mountain, past the hanging bridge. Along the way we tasted ripe coffee cherries and smelled various spice plants. At the back is the BenCab museum. If you're up for some more trekking, ask the guide and he could take you further up, to the personal hut of National Artist Ben Cabrera where he often goes to enjoy nature. All in all, it's a very pleasant walk, especially with the cool and fresh Baguio air.

I totally enjoyed our visit to the BenCab. Museum, and I hope you would to. Have you visited? What did you find most interesting in your visit?

Bye for now.
