Choosing a venue for an important client meeting in Makati? Sealing the deal on a high dollar contract? Treating a successful colleague or dating your special someone? Wanting impact for a key team meeting? Check out Blackbird along Makai Avenue at the corner of Ayala Avenue.
The experience starts with a generous driveway and drop off area. This is a restaurant you want to go to when you're avoiding long walks through a mall. Excellent when chauffeur-driven. Good also when driving your own car as there is parking in the side. Just be early so you get a slot.
When you enter you're greeted by a cozy and well appointed reception area. This can serve as a foyer for cocktails or tea while waiting for guests. The interior's deep, rich colors, varying textures and interesting shapes add up to a classy first look. There's also a bar in this area, though I don't promote alcohol drinking, but it's there for those who look for it.
It's worth a pause in this area to take in the ambiance. Wait for your client and greet him here. Make introductions while in this area. Or if Daring and meeting one-on-one with someone, make a purposeful stop in the middle of the room and deliver a short spiel in a seemingly casual way, for dramatic effect. Of course, don't say "let's stop here so you can see what a fine place I've chosen", instead deliver something smart but not too profound. "By the way, have you seen the news about ...? Let's discuss over lunch how this impact our directions" should be about fine. Or, simply compliment (not flatter) the person at his point.
Stride on to the dining area. A short hall separates the reception and dining areas. Notice this set-up, the lighting and interior articles all contribute for a bit of flair, while not being too much. For first meetings, arrange for a table on the second floor if you can. You'll need to go up a fancy wood staircase to get there.
The second floor is a more private area with fewer tables. Ideal for a small gathering, a team meeting, or a more intimate dinner. But whether on the second floor or the main dining floor, you're good.
Enjoy a starter and a main course. Desserts are great also. Take your pick. Not cheap, but making a good impression seldom comes easy, particularly when you're being authentic.
So then, that's the part of the venue. All set, all good, all done. The next part is up to you. Prepare, and it'll be easier.
If you're up for al fresco dining, the back of Blackbird offers an interesting and large porch area with many tables. This area has a more casual look, while still being stylish. This place is okay for a sizable and more lively group. A few kids parties have also been organized here, of course - privileged kids with dressed up Dads and Moms.
From the back you'll see the design of the "tower". Painted as the "Manila International Air Terminal", you'll learn the history that Blackbird was once the site of Nielsen Tower, another fine restaurant in the past.
The back is a nice venue also because Blackbird is adjacent to Urdaneta Park, an oasis of lush greeneries within the concrete paths of Makati. No noisy, bustling cars here.
That's it for now! Enjoy a fine and successful time, then tell me about your experience. Bye!
