Work of Philippine Artist Featured in Mexican Magazine

Vegetate, a pencil-on-paper drawing by Philippine artist Jem Magbanua was featured the other day in the Mexican magazine, Inkult.



JEM Magbanua recently graduated from the LASALLE College Of The Arts in Singapore completing a degree in Bachelor of Arts, Fine Arts, Painting with First Honors. JEM is an awardee of the prestigious Winston Oh Travel Award of LASALLE College and travelled to Kyoto for 10 days to study the culture and create an art piece that was exhibited in conjunction with the award. JEM was thoroughly fascinated and captivated by the beautiful city of Kyoto. She also saw how different it is from Tokyo, which he had visited on an earlier trip.

Prior to LASALLE College Of The Arts, JEM studied at the Singapore American School where she had varied art teachers and instructors. She has travelled to many places, viewing numerous museums and informing her art, including interesting and curious locations in the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States of America, Japan, Indonesia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

JEM has participated in art shows and exhibits, including a by-invitation exhibit by the Singapore General Hospital. She has a Zine entitled Landscape that is published and sold by Zinematica, an Argentinian company featuring contemporary emerging artists, and she is currently working on another Zine to be published by a European company. She had art displayed and sold through Buy Some Damn Art based in Brooklyn, New York, USA. A number of her paintings, drawings and illustrations have been posted and reposted on the Internet.
