Mont Blanc backpacks up close

The new Mont Blanc backpacks are steeped in luxury and quality workmanship and materials, yet offered at a refreshingly competitive price range. Check these features.

The Mont Blanc Signature Black Rucksack is shown above on the left, and the Meisterstück Soft Grain Backpack Black is shown above on the right

The Mont Blanc Signature Black Rucksack is made of high-performance PVC-coated fabric, with jacquard 100% black cotton lining and stainless steel fittings. The material is water resistant and will keep your tech gear and goodies dry.

The interior is very good with generous sections including a small zippered inner pocket and of course, holders for your Mont Blanc pens. The zippers are dark-coloured, and can fit a small padlock. The pocket for the computer is padded. The top handle is large and the shoulder straps have leather accents.

The canvas material is a bit too stiff to my liking, although it keeps the shape of the bag well.

There are selectively placed leather accents and the Mont Blanc name and emblem. Piping on the edges and bold stitching of the leather provide added finesse. There is an additional small zippered pocket on the upper front, and a zippered medium compartment at the front bottom section. Overall this is a great rucksack at SGD $905. Quite a steal, actually.

The Meisterstück Soft Grain Backpack is made of Italian full-grain cowhide leather, with jacquard 100% black cotton lining and stainless steel fittings with a palladium-coated ring. The main zipper is silver-coloured, and specifically designed to accept a padlock. The interior feels luxurious, and it has an additional zippered pocket that acts as a divider. This is also designed to carry a computer.

The top handle is full leather, large and comfortable. The shoulder straps are soft and comfortable. There is a small zippered pocket at the upper back portion, which is nice and secure while carrying the bag. And of course there is a zippered medium sized compartment in front and the Mont Blanc emblem. Overall this is the most luxurious pack of the three with it's supple leather exterior that has a great soft yet tactile feel. The price is almost impassable at SGD 1070.

The Mont Blanc Extreme Rucksack is at the upper photo, right side.

The Mont Blanc Extreme Rucksack is made of calf leather with a woven carbon look from a graphite treatment that makes it waterproof, scratch resistant and fire proof (wow!). The fittings are aluminium-black. The bag has three large zippered compartments, one specifically for a computer.

The interior compartments are generous, and the top handle is comfortable. The shoulder strap has a leather highlight, but the edges feel a bit stiff and rough for me.

The Extreme Rucksack is the only model among the three that uses an air mesh back material.

I like how they three compartments slant down towards the front and give an appearance of being small, but this is actually a sizable pack. For the Extreme Rucksack, I personally find this a bit too rugged for the office. I would also prefer the material to be a bit softer, more elegant to the touch. At a price of SGD 1120, this is overall still a great bag to have.

On overall comments to the designers, I believe they should have the front compartments on the Signature and the Meisterstück slant somewhat downward as in the Extreme Rucksack so they look more integrated and don't look like a clutch bag was just glued onto the front of the packs.
I also recommend that the Mont Blanc emblem be enlarged. They just look so tiny and unimpressive, not commensurate to the size of the bugs.

They used the standard emblems just like they are on these 2 pen cases, which are fine here but look extremely small on the bags that are more than 20X the size of these pen cases.

Mont Blanc should consider instead the size of the emblems on these two limited edition pens which would be more appropriate in my opinion. If they had these size emblems, I'd have the Meisterstück Soft Grain Backpack by now!

So there you have it, my take on the new line-up of Mont Blanc backpacks. All are available across Singapore and Mont Blanc boutiques worldwide.
