LED Lenser M7R compared with the P7.2

Looking to buy a highly functional and technologically adapvanced flashlight? Check out the LED Lenser M7R. Key features include a 400 Lumens constant lighting, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and innovative charging system, an advanced focusing system for quick one-handed spot to flood adjustment, and multiple light output settings.

LED Lenser is crafted with the meticulous detailing and extensive functions and well-thought features expected of fine, luxury German products. (Think BMW among conventional cars.)

To appreciate the technological advances of the MR7, it will be useful to compare this with a similar high-end flashlight, in this case the LED Lenser P7.2.

The M7R is longer by about 20 mm at a length of about 150 mm. Notice the silver coloured metal ring that signifies a higher end model, though both are fine small-size light sticks. If you have a P7.2  and are wondering if the M7R is too big - don't worry. It's fine.

Both models use a single LED with actual lenses for powerful light projections. The M7R gives a maximum of 400 Lux constant light while the P7.2 can provide a boost of 320 Lux and a constant output of 260 Lux. The Advanced Lighting Technology of the M7R provides 3 operating modes and 8 different kinds of lights outputs, as well as 2 modes of power management for either constant lighting with a steeper drop off when the battery drains or a gradual light output reduction as you use the light. There are 3 flashing modes including an SOS sequence, plus it has a dimmer function to get the output you precisely desire.

The M7R also has a focus lock as you can see on the light head, so you can fix the specific flood or spot setting you want.

The big advantage of the LED Lenser M7R however, is the rechargeable Lithium-ion battery and the ingenious charging system. The battery is the same type that powers all iPhones and smartphones, and is not subject to "memory loss" or the decay in charging load of past rechargeable batteries, won't require full draining of the battery before a fresh charge and can be charged anytime with partial charging without harming the batteries. The charging system is unique in that you won't need to unscrew the flashlight to take out the battery. You simply have to attach the end of the flashlight to the "floating" charger, and then you'll see a red indicator light on the flashlight exterior that will soon turn green once the battery is fully charged. The blue lamp on the charger is also neat and gives a very modern feel to the flashlight. Having such a convenient battery recharging system means Yu can freely and extensively use your flashlight without thinking twice on battery costs! Also, please don't just stick rechargeable batteries on your flashlight without checking the manual. Electronic flashlights can be sensitive and will be particular to state if rechargeable batteries are not recommended.

The only advantage for me with the P7.2 is this nice nylon carrying case. The M7R has a plastic holster that can be swiveled so  even if the flashlight is still holstered you can swing it up, but to me this has limited use. I'd recommend LED Lenser develop a nylon carrying case that would still allow the charging system to work and where the nice coloured indicator lamps are visible.

Lastly, here is the back view of the two LED Lemser models. The silver switch on the M7R connects with the charging system. Both switches work very well.

All in all, the LED Lenser is a great flashlight and sells at SGD 185, available in Singapore at Outdoor Life, Wheelock Place along Orchard.

Bye for now.
Be sure to walk in the Light!

“If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
