It's great to see the Leica cameras on sale at the Frankfurt airport Duty Free shops. Ffor this renowned German camera brand, there will always be something special at the Frankfurt airport. Featured this time is a Leica M series camera that heralds the distinguished heritage of this model wth a distinct retro look including bared metal showing through the fine finishing, combined with all the powerful and sophisticated digital photographic controls and prowess of Leica professional cameras. This limited camera series is a collaboration of Leica and Lenny Kravitz to produce 125 precious pieces. In developing the model, there is a more limited pre-series of 6 prototypes, and the item on display was prototype 2, selling for a hefty Euro 45,000 (SGD 68,800, or PhP 2.35 million). This camera set with a 1.4/50 mm and a 2.0/35 mm is not for the faint hearted or one with a shallow pocket! It's a unique piece reserved for the privileged few.

Also on display are the new Leica D Lux Type 109 that sells for Euro 1,100 for the black and Euro 1,200 for the Solid Grey. As a D Lux 5 user, this is my personal Favourite and I am considering buying the black model. This has a 1:1.7-2.8 lens equivalent to 24 mm to 75 mm. A very fast lens for a compact camera with a good range, made more extensive with Leica's digital zoom capability. New features include a built-in digital high resolution viewfinder that displays images according to your camera settings, and wifi functionality, among a host of other features. This to me is a truly professional, compact "rangefinder" type camera that is beautiful and easy to bring anywhere!
The new Leica D Lux Type 109 is on display at Euro 1,100 for the black and Euro 1,200 for the Solid Grey.
Another interesting camera is the Leica XE Tyoe 102 selling at Euro 1,650 with an attractive silver, textured metal finish.
There is also the Leica X Type 113 selling for Euro 2,500, and the Leica X-Vario Type 107 selling for Euro 2,650.
