Mannheim is a beautiful place to be at on a Sunday afternoon in Germany. Not too big a city with a fast pace, neither a small town with too little to see or do. Not too touristy, not too quaint. A place to
land on if you're staying for more than a short visit.
Shops are closed on Sunday. This forces you to spend time reflecting, doing personal things to catch up on, read your Bible, pray, listen to a podcast or message. Then have a slow breakfast or lunch, then go for a long afternoon walk, break it with coffee, then go explore the city again.
Mannheim has many parks and churches to walk to. Very picturesque. In the parks, people would lie under patches of sunlight as spring is approaching. This air is chilly and crisp, fresh and at the right time, not too cold.
Appealing sculptures and architecture dot the community and make the landscape more interesting.
The largest baroque castle in the world is at Mannheim.
The museum is open on Sundays, up to 5pm only so go early. I wanted to just have a relaxing day so I opted out of the many museums this time.
But just walking the streets gave me a good feeling of being in a new place.
Yes, I had my share of coffee and ice cream also!
Then walking around some more, now to burn the extra calories! There are parks all around, which are refreshing to see.
Of course you'll also get to the town square and see more people. But it's really scarce compared to being in a typical Asian city or even a suburb.
Even at the town square on a Sunday afternoon, there weren't that many people.
As a visitor it's a forced break from shopping to enjoy the scenery and the history of the place.
All photos here were taken with an iPhone 7Plus. I like the telephoto lens which delivers good clarity and contrast.
That's it for now. Hope you enjoyed the Sunday afternoon walk with me. Watch out for a succeeding blog that gives shopping tips for Frankfurt and Dusseldorf.
Cheers!
