A once-in-a-lifetime event, this is the grandest watch exhibition of Patek Philippe in Singapore, and it is free and open to the public, no need to be a watch afficionado or have a small personal collection to attend and appreciate.
The displays are extensive, with historical and very precious pieces to modern collections. From early pocket watches to table watches to the most sophisticated modern complications.
With miniature:masterpieces hand painted in lasting enamels, these are works of visual art and beauty amidst highly technical and precise horology.
The exhibition is housed at the Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands, easily accessible by car, taxi or MRT. The Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition runs from the 28th of September until the 13th of October, 2019.
The total exhibit spans a 1,800-square metre space with 10 themed rooms; the Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition showcases display pieces, short feature films, detailed diagram walls.
There was a display of reproductions of original handwritten instructions, diagrams and notes on watchmaking, including exchanges between Mr. Philippe and the watch plant. These original writings are held by the company as equally precious as some of their timepieces.
There are numerous stations where you could observe watch master-craftsmen displaying their skills in gold engraving on watch plates, painting miniature enamel scenes, and performing various highly specialized skills in fine, mechanical watch-making. THEre is also an interactive VR station, done in the very classy and sophisticated Patek Philippe way.
There’s even a set where you can dress up in white gowns and stand behind a work table, as if you were in a Patek Philippe production floor. Indeed the whole Grand Exhibition feels like a visit to the famous manufacturies’ houses in Switzerland! The only thing is that being in Asia, in Singapore, you have a lot more people in attendance!
And of course there’s a photo wall! So I had my photo taken again. The last time Patek Philippe had a display in Singapore was in 2009 and I had the privilege of going as well, but it wasn’t as sprawling and extensive and participative a display as this one!
So, visit and enjoy! You can also avail of complimentary Patek Philippe magazines, or purchase the specialty books and the exhibit catalog.
