Coach and Tumi backpacks have proven to be very well crafted and excellent pieces. And they have gone on exceptional sale prices, something definitely worthy to catch!
Coach has new upbeat and playful styles and colors. And the color range is very extensive from dark and subdued colors fitting for both the office and vacation trips. To light and happy colors great for relaxed moods and weekends jaunts. There are solid colors in full leather, and more playful mixes of leather and canvas in different styles and shades.
The newer releases are on offer with a 10% discount, while the earlier season styles and colors are on a 40% discount. These are very sizable reduction! If you had the chance to catch it like I did, they were giving away an additional 10% discount on top of the 40%. So the regular price of SGD 1,100 came out at S$ 594!
The earlier season model has a zipper on the side for easy access to the main compartment. Something to be aware of, to make sure you don’t leave it open and thus allow something to drop. There are generous pockets inside for organizing, giving you lots of options on how to carry gear.
This bag shows a darker combination of bue leather with gray Coach canvas. The side zipper was removed on the newer season backpack. Now depending on your color choice, the earlier season style with new colors is still sold at the regular price of S$1,100.
Noteworthy also is that if you want a full leather Coach backpack, they are available in black and saddle brown at the same price, which I find to be a great offer. The all-black, full leather piece is a no-nonsense, strict and straight formal bag, while the saddle brown version has happy highlights in a pumpkin shade mixed in.
The new season backpacks have longer pockets on the side. These are good for packing but personally I find these a bit too deep and somewhat difficult to get something that’s at the bottom. The metal & plastic clips on the previous season were also replaced by decorative faux buckles that are fastened magnetically. But to add security, it has an added loop where you can fasten the tightening cord at the top
The way the shoulder straps are fastened to the bag also changed. In the earlier but still current design, the shoulder straps are stitched directly to a leather fastening on the back, while in the newer design there is now a metal ring that holds the shoulder straps. Both are actually okay based on lengthy experience, and I’ve discussed these in more detail in a previous post, though I have a preference for the direct stitching. I also like that the backstraps in the earlier season’s model has leather on the outer side.
On the newer version, the shoulder straps are now fastened to a ring that is stithed to the back. This is still very secure and I’ve used my leather backpacks having this style with heavy loads and they are durable indeed. The backstraps are now fully textile and nylon and are more breathability, however I would value this more for technical backpacks that I would use climbing up mountains, and I’m not too keen on this feature for a city packpack, but it’s of course okay. I also like how they’ve designed the bottom of some bags in black, full leather. I like how this allows mens backpacks to be carefee and just place the bags on the floor, normal for men to do, and this is a great feature.
Shifting over to Tumi, the Tumi Alpha 3 Brief Pack is an excellent backpack for carrying a 15” notebook and feel very secure about it. Extra padding makes sure your precious computer and files are well protected. The usual price is S$1,290 for the full leather version, and $890 for the ballistic nylon model. Currently the full leather version is available at Tumi Raffles City Shopping Centre but not at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. The really great thing is that this full leather Alpha 3 Brief Pack is now on 50% off sale, so you can get it at an extremely good price of S$645! This is extremely good. I purchased mine at SGD 805 when it was at S$1,150, so this pricing is really good! Read more about the Tumi Alpha Brief Pack from my previous post.
A splendid option for this Tumi Brief Pack is the limited edition Black Chrome that has a mix of leather and nylon and shiny nickel zippers and accents. The regular price is SGD 1,050, and it is currently selling for SGD 630, a whopping 40% discount. The bright zippers give this design a more catchy look, almost like Prada bag styling.
The accents are very tastefully done, with a lot of class and maintaining it's executive businessman's appeal. This is an excellent choice if you’re in the market for an office or travel backpack. Lots of features, very extensive array of pockets for organizing, and conveniences for travel. Check the Tumi website or my previous post to learn more. Admittedly though, this bag is not my first choice for the weekend, or when I want to lounge over a looong cup of coffee (or many cups) at a favorite hangout.
The Alpha 3 Brief pack has the strap at the back for fastening onto the handles of a roller bag. This makes it very convenient on business trips where you are carrying a lot.
New insight from Tumi - their best sale prices are on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. So catch these when you can. If fact the Tumi Apha 3 Black Chrome Brief Pack was selling at only SGD 504 during that weekend. Too good to pass up if you’re in the market for it! Imagine the full ballistic nylon version is selling at S$890, and even with a 20% discount, this still comes out higher at S$ 712!
