Foreign trip through Singapore Changi Airport during this COVID Christmas 2020? It’s a new experience! Here are tips to make the most of it!
The previously frenetic filled halls of Singapore Changi International Airport are now sparsely filled. Walking alongside the boutique stores felt surreal, like I was in a dream where there are very few people, but this was reality.
It was strange to see almost the same number if not more - of airport staff and security personnel walking around as compared to passengers! And yet many luxury brand stores have remained open, though some are closed.
If you’re in for last minute shopping of electronics, I can say there is no opportunity in Terminal 1. So your best choice would be to take a detour to Jewel before going to your departure area. Cosmetics, fragrances, specoialty food and coffee shops are available. If you want to dine, you still have good options, but it just feels different to have so few people.
Even the dining areas on the mezzanine on T1 were quite empty.
What’s exciting to see is the great discounts on a number of shops. Some giving up to 60% off, making the prices almost too difficult to resist!
I was particularly drawn to the Ferragamo store in T1. In the city, Ferragamo would seldom go on sale, and not by much. But in Changi, I savored these choice finds. Like this Ferragamo belt having a gold buckle and tan and brown leather that’s very lightly textured. This is an infrequent leather color combination and a great selection in my opinion, as you could go with either British Tan shoes or dark shades like Mahogany. It was going for 50% off, plus the duty free price, it was selling for SG$ 289! Almost a steal to buy!
There was also a Ferragamo silver buckle with blue and dark brown textured leather. A great choice with options for a more causal attire and while simultaneously ready for formal settings. The silver buckle is less flashy, more subdued, and the lighter shade of blue provides great definition and and matches extremely well with jeans. It was going at 30% off and selling for SG$ 425. A great price for this classy catch!
There was also a Ferragamo Dark Silver (like Antique Silver, or Old Silver, or Gun Metal color) buckle with a center wood accent and mated to a more traditional black and dark brown smooth leather. I previously wanted this buckle, but having a lot of black and dark brown leather belts, this just wasn’t a good choice for me. It’s a wonderful catch for a classic belt for a business trip, and at the price of SG$ 303 with a 50% discount, the one who gets this is a winner.
There are lots of luxury bags and brands on striking sale discounts, so if you are blessed to travel in December, make sure to check in early and leave time explore what’s available, then decide what you need, what you want, what you can spare. And experience a different feeling through Changi, this time around.
Take care on your travels! Stay safe!
